Find Your Local Rally for October 22nd, the National Day of Protest Against Police Brutality, Happening TODAY

” This October 22nd, stand with thousands across the country to express our collective outrage, creativity, and resistance in response to the crimes of this system. On October 22nd, WEAR BLACK, FIGHT BACK! ” – The October 22 Coalition

October 22 was been an important day for me for many, many years. It is the day of national police brutality protest. I’ve been taking part of this for at least a decade, missing a few years here and there yes but I never am away in spirit, usually always there in person, but sometimes sadly have had to miss. But I digress. I know protesting isn’t going to solve this issue.

However, I do think today is a day of duty to make sure everyone knows how angry we are, and that we are not going away. This protest has been going on since the late 1990s, and with more and more cities joining in, I hope everyone has a productive but also a safe day. Watch yourself and please know your rights for what they are worth. Protesting rights can be found here. [For what it is worth…Again, please be safe…]

Also tomorrow there is another important event going on in New York City. A court case over yet another murder by the police begins and as many people as possible are needed to support the family and cause. More information below, followed by a list of cities and your local events. First though, let’s take care of the two places I call home, but I’m gonna do it in reverse order, Newark first..

Newark, NJ, being one of those cities, as the poster below suggests. Today, October 22, at 3 pm in Newark, NJ, newark nj

“WE STAND UNITED IN DEFENSE OF OUR NEW CIVILIAN REVIEW BD AND WILL RALLY @ THE LINCOLN MONUMENT @ 3PM ” < Newark, NJ

And NEW YORK! STARTS AT 12pm TODAY!

As for my FIRST home, NYC, today at noon the rally begins at the steps of the Brooklyn Borough Hall.

The page also included the following so I might as well: Take the 2/3 to Clark Street or Borough Hall, 4/5 to Borough Hall, A/C/F to Jay Street-Metrotech, R to Court Street.
March to Barclays Center for second rally follow. [Event Page HERE.]

And before the list of the rest of the cities, please note there is an important event is happening tomorrow, the 23rd. Please show up and show our numbers are not going down… We need the community now to unite more than ever…

“…in an upcoming court case against NYPD Officer Wayne Isaacs, who murdered Delrawn Small on July 4th of last year. The trail will start on 10/23 and is expected to last for 2-3 weeks. For morning attendance, arrive before 9 am to get through security/lines. Afternoon sessions begin after lunch around 2pm. Each day will probably recess sometime between 4-5pm.

Location: Brooklyn Supreme Court, 320 Jay Street, 2nd floorCeremonial Courtroom” Each day will probably recess sometime between 4-5pm.Txt (646) 302-8959 for any question you may have.

All Trains to Brooklyn Borough Hall “

You can access tomorrows event information by clicking here, which will take you to, like most of these event pages will take you to, the related Facebook group page, opening in a new tab.

I truly, truly hope we over flood the courts. I’m curious, how many of you can recall Delrawn Small’s killing? Especially those outside New York… Okay so later today I’ll either be putting up a post in Delrawn’s memory, or making a video; one of the two… After seeing how few people remember or know of this, it reminds me back when I was working in 2004…no one knew. And the few that did…

Anyway… For the rest of America, here ya go. If your city isn’t below, click here for the October 22 website and see what’s up; if nothing is going on, consider starting your own…Speak out, we need VOICES. We need action, honestly, but that’s another story…

We Make Us Better- Inspiring Black Men in Bed-Stuy

“We’re about encouraging males to be involved, because you don’t see men in their 20s, 30s and 40s involved in the community anymore, so we’re trying to bridge that gap.”

Wow!! Utica Avenue…., Brooklyn, Bed-Stuy, East NY……. My home.

I have to repost this out of thanks and to show an example of what real men do. This is one of my old neighborhoods on top of all else… I don’t know these men but I hope they know how grateful I am they exist, and how inspiring they are…

There’s no monetary gain, or political affiliation with the men of “We Make Us Better” the only agenda they have is simply to do what’s right. In response to a string of muggings and robberies, once a week these homegrown Bed-Stuy men walk pedestrians home from the Utica Avenue train station. The idea for the group came after 41 year old Richard Beavers received a call in the middle of the night from a friend who had been robbed.
“She was on her way home, came out of the Utica Ave. A train station and made it onto her block when a group of young males approached her and robbed her,” recalled Beavers to The New York Daily News. I decided we can’t have these people terrorizing our young women and children, and we’re not speaking up and making our presence felt.”

Beavers then enlisted the help of co-founder Thomas Simms and 35-year-old Kareem Varlack. They took on the name “We Make Us Better” in hopes to impart wisdom to other young black men in the neighborhood.

“We’re about encouraging males to be involved, because you don’t see men in their 20s, 30s and 40s involved in the community anymore, so we’re trying to bridge that gap.”

This month the generous activity takes place today, January 12, 2016. This community event will continue to take place each second Tuesday of the month, until further notice.
The hours are from 7pm to 9pm and they do ask you let them know you’ll be attending, so they can plan how many people to prepare for.

Woman Striving to Make NYC Hero, Maurice Osborne, Dreams a Reality; & You Can Help

Remember the man in the photo, Maurice Osbourne? He is the virtuous, honorable, gentleman, whom selflessly put his safety and life aside to protect a woman he didn’t know from being raped. Afterwards, when no one would assist him in escorting the sick pervert to the police, he did it by himself. He is studying to be a medical assistant, currently lives in a shelter in Brooklyn, and deserves so much love, respect and kindness given back to him. I say this as a female from NYC and as a survivor. Maurice Osbourne is a hero in my eyes. Below you’ll find his story, or you can find it in a previous post, located here.

Thankfully, another woman as thankful to this sweet, brave man as I am, wanted to do something nice for him. So she has started a GoFundMe page to help him get out of the shelter he is staying in and into his own place as well as pay his school debt and complete the rest of his education to be a Medical Assistant, Thus far $20,000 (give or take) has been raised. Every dollar counts, and if there is anyone more deserving of having something kind and heartfelt done for them, it is without a doubt Maurice Osborne. Click here to visit the GoFundMe page. Note: This woman did Maurice Osbourne NYC SUbway Heronot have any knowledge or contact with Maurice until after hearing about his heroic actions.

“In response to his brave act of heroism and on behalf of all women everywhere this fundraiser is to aid Mr. Osborne in paying for his school tuition and all expenses related. All proceeds raised through this page will go Mr. Osborne. Pay it forward and reward his good deed.
About the campaign:
I am a volunteer on behalf of a group of New York women who read Mr. Osborne’s story and wanted to personally thank him for his courageous actions. We are all locally based and wanted to show our appreciation for keeping our commutes safer. Continue reading Woman Striving to Make NYC Hero, Maurice Osborne, Dreams a Reality; & You Can Help

NYC Teacher, Felix Cross, Killed by Careless Officer

Prime example of what I'm talking about.
Prime example of what I’m talking about.

When cops commit a crime, what happens to them? What happens when they shoot unarmed men, women and teens; or if they bully anyone but especially a teen to suicide? What happens when they are driving drunk and have a wreck, killing someone’s wife or husband? What happens when a cop is texting or chatting away on the phone, hits someone and kills them?

NYPD Killing Followed by Beatings and More Police Abuse

Wow. One of these photos was taken in America in the 1960s…the other taken last night (the 14th) during the Brooklyn protests for the unjust police killings.

Picture By "SMALL PEOPLE" AGAINST BIG GOVERNMENT - can be found on facebook
Picture By “SMALL PEOPLE” AGAINST BIG GOVERNMENT – can be found on facebook

One of 46 arrests made Wednesday night, mostly for disorderly conduct.

This is absolutely disgusting. We must keep fighting back, they can’t kill us all, they can’t break us all. And they should not be allowed to have this power over the people. How can we just sit back and accept this? Why are we not more angry than this? Why is the entire nation and even other nations not joining in with Brooklyn? Let this not be the end, let us tell them there will be no more murdering and beating of the people…. It’s WELL PAST TIME!!!!!!!! This has been going on for so many years…why in this world should I trust the police? I don’t. Never will. And I don’t care what color you are, what nationality, what age, gender, sexual preference…it’s time we all come together against the real enemy! Reposted this from an article… and of course the original link is below:

Hostility has been mounting this week in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, after two plainclothes police officers fatally shot 16-year-old Kimani Gray after he allegedly pointed a revolver at them on Saturday night.
