upcoming-Malcolm X Remembered at Real Talk Thursdays-2/23/17-NEWARK NJ!

malcolm-x-newark-black-and-hispanic-familiesThis week in Newark, NJ, there is a free, weekly, on-going, open to anyone group called REAL TALK THURSDAYS meeting up as done every Thursday, for an hour, to discuss matters of importance but not typically discussed. This weeks meeting will be the beautiful soul and man, Malcolm X & his importance to the Black Liberation Movement.

When I return back home I will be attending religiously; however for the time I am EXTREMELY sad –especially this week!!!- that I will be missing out on this weeks discussion. Malcolm X is a man I love and am very passionate about; he is a person history must not forget yet he is a person I don’t recall ever being in a text book in school.

This is an wonderful opportunity for the community to get together and shed the chains of racism and lies; to build unity within the community! Having these educational, intellectual conversation with others within the community leads to RE-education. RE-educate the mind, share your knowledge, discuss and learn more knowledge for yourself…Gain self love and empowerment for, this is key to building a stronger community and a stronger community is key to freedom...

Want to attend? Read the post below written by Bashir Akinyele, one of the chairmen of this much needed, finally REAL, place to go to discuss issues and topics that MATTER but are all too often “left out” or “forgotten”… Bashir Akinyele says of REAL TALK THURSDAYS:

“This program is an opportunity to discuss solutions to the problems affecting African Americans, Latino Americans, people of color, women, the youth, and humanity.”

And now, his article. PLEASE SHARE THIS EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT IN NEWARK!

The Black History Month Committee was created by history teachers to organize programs and activities for February’s Black History Month at Weequahic High School for students and the community.

Something I feel important to post…

“It is communities like New York City that propel our GDP, and it’s the many folks who live in HUD-assisted housing who are a part of that success.”

Woman Striving to Make NYC Hero, Maurice Osborne, Dreams a Reality; & You Can Help

Remember the man in the photo, Maurice Osbourne? He is the virtuous, honorable, gentleman, whom selflessly put his safety and life aside to protect a woman he didn’t know from being raped. Afterwards, when no one would assist him in escorting the sick pervert to the police, he did it by himself. He is studying to be a medical assistant, currently lives in a shelter in Brooklyn, and deserves so much love, respect and kindness given back to him. I say this as a female from NYC and as a survivor. Maurice Osbourne is a hero in my eyes. Below you’ll find his story, or you can find it in a previous post, located here.

Thankfully, another woman as thankful to this sweet, brave man as I am, wanted to do something nice for him. So she has started a GoFundMe page to help him get out of the shelter he is staying in and into his own place as well as pay his school debt and complete the rest of his education to be a Medical Assistant, Thus far $20,000 (give or take) has been raised. Every dollar counts, and if there is anyone more deserving of having something kind and heartfelt done for them, it is without a doubt Maurice Osborne. Click here to visit the GoFundMe page. Note: This woman did Maurice Osbourne NYC SUbway Heronot have any knowledge or contact with Maurice until after hearing about his heroic actions.

“In response to his brave act of heroism and on behalf of all women everywhere this fundraiser is to aid Mr. Osborne in paying for his school tuition and all expenses related. All proceeds raised through this page will go Mr. Osborne. Pay it forward and reward his good deed.
About the campaign:
I am a volunteer on behalf of a group of New York women who read Mr. Osborne’s story and wanted to personally thank him for his courageous actions. We are all locally based and wanted to show our appreciation for keeping our commutes safer. Continue reading

David Felix; Remember That Name…

April 25, 2015, the 24 year-old unarmed ‘Black’ man from Haiti; an activist and an aspiring fashion student living in NYC, was murdered by two veteran NYPD ‘detectives.’ It’s sickly ironic to me that they always seem to hit the good guys, maybe I’m just being paranoid; but anyone who is pro-community seems to be an even larger target. Is that just me?David Felix Murdered by NYPD
David was a very popular and welcomed face among the homeless and the runaway youth community here in New York City. Social and legal providers alike knew David Felix to be a man with a beautiful heart; the loving, giving first generation immigrant was welcomed into New York City with open arms because of his good nature, his pure spirit and beautiful heart.
He had a passion of caring for those who needed it the most; hurting a soul was the last thing I can imagine David Felix would have ever thought of. He is the kind of man this world needs more of; not just man, but soul. But the NYPD do not want to see that; especially from a Black male so you know what tragically happens next.
