Show Your Support of Bradley Manning & Truth With an Evening of Art & Discussions in NYC

This is something I am looking forward to immensely! Anyone in the NYC area should make note to attend. Just going to repost from the bradleymanning.org  website.

On April 3rd, Icelandic Parliamentarian, activist WikiLeaks contributor and “poetician” Birgitta Jonsdottir is making her first visit to the United States since the release of the “Collateral Murder” video. This video is one of the most graphic and devastating pieces of journalism from the war in Iraq. Bradley Manning, who has now been in jail for over 1000 days without trial, leaked this video to raise awareness.

Most Violent Areas are Also the Area’s Lacking Emergency Care and Access…. Critical Read, I Believe.

This is a fact filled article written perfectly already so just gonna copy and paste…it is also one that brings up a highly disturbing fact: the neighborhoods with the most violence are the ones with the least easy access to emergency trauma units… Read below to see exactly how horrible this crisis is…sadly, it also points out the racial discrimination still going on in America.

Oh…One thing I wanna note though, I am very proud to be against taking guns off the street. Taking guns away will not stop violence, it will just be another door for the police and government to frame and lock away young men and women, in my opinion. I will explain that another time. For now; I believe we all have the right to bare arms, especially in the current time. It makes me very sad that these guns are being used on each other; people seem to be forgetting there is a real enemy, and it has nothing to do with color, gangs, etc….. Anyhow, here is the original post with link below.

Chicago’s most crime-ridden neighborhoods have no access to trauma care.
BY Rebecca Burns

The nation finally took notice of Chicago’s epidemic of gun violence after 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton was fatally shot January 29. Pendleton was the city’s 42nd victim that month, but her appearance at President Obama’s inauguration just weeks before pushed her death to the center of a national conversation on gun control. Since 2008, more young people have been killed in Chicago than in any other American city—a statistic that has sent city officials in search of solutions to plug loopholes in gun policy and crack down on gang violence.

But Veronica Morris-Moore, 20, a community organizer from Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood, believes politicians are looking for solutions in the wrong places. “If they’re not going to talk about the economic violence that causes gun violence, then I’m not interested in the conversation,” she says.

Left out of the gun-control debate, Morris-Moore says, are the poverty and lack of services that plague neighborhoods with high rates of gun violence—including what she calls a “trauma care desert” for gunshot victims on Chicago’s South Side. Homeless Man Sets Self on Fire in NYC Subway; When is Society Going to Develop a Heart?? There is A CRISIS Happening RIGHT NOW-

man_fire--525x400

The above man set himself on fire at the Bleeker street subway in NYC on Friday…  That alone breaks my heart. Was he trying to harm himself? Obviously, if you are in NYC you know it hasn’t been and is not warm by any means. Everyone should have access to shelter, their own home, no one should have to suffer in this cold. Yet I know they do, and they will continue to do so…especially with the current state of the world and governments. *sigh* So… Continue reading Homeless Man Sets Self on Fire in NYC Subway; When is Society Going to Develop a Heart?? Severely Disabled Man At Imminent Risk of Losing Home

This breaks my heart. I am aware most of my posts are negative and all break my heart which means they all send fire through me to make sure I do anything I can to help. I hope it does you, too. Real news is what we need to know about and then take some form of action against or to help raise awareness. Truth is usually not easy to read or hear, but it’s vital if we are to come together and SURVIVE.

For over 20 years Mr. Jones was a teacher in Detroit until 2005, when he suffered a traumatic brain injury and has since become severely disabled. While waiting for his pension to be processed, and for Social Security to come through, he fell behind on his mortgage payments and now is in IMMEDIATE AND URGENT DANGER OF BEING EVICTED. He personally wrote a letter to Wells Fargo explaining his situation and also had a phone conference with them to discuss a loan.

Many organizations against foreclosures and evictions are asking for any and all help in helping a disabled man by the name of S. Baxter Jones, keep his home and avoid eviction.  He has already had so much taken; why must they aim for his HOME?

And it is not as if Mr. Jones hasn’t tried. Wells Fargo refused to work with him and went ahead with the foreclosure despite the fact that Jones had finally begun to get his Social Security benefits. And to show just how much the government doesn’t care, here is a depressing but telling fact I read in an article regarding this situation on workers.org :

He faces imminent eviction from his home, where he has lived since 2002 in Jackson, Mich. What makes this even more outrageous is that Mr. Jones’ loan was sold to Fannie Mae, which has been taken over by the federal government.

“That means our tax dollars are being used to throw this disabled former school teacher into the street.”

To see a video describing this outrage go to tinyurl.com/colqvd8.

Not only does it mean tax payers are paying to throw him out, it also means while they were waiting for their “precious” mortgage payments, the same government which took over those demanding the money, was taking its time, not concerned by the fact that their long process to receive benefits could extremely impact a persons life! It’s all a stupid, heartless cycle, isn’t it? A home should be a basic human right. And if they won’t give us that, they should at least give people who need it, help immediately so they don’t risk everything being lost due to the government’s lack of care.

Detroit Eviction Defense and the Moratorium NOW! Coalition to Stop Foreclosures, Evictions and Utility Shutoffs are asking for support to help S. Baxter Jones. Let’s join them and make that a reality!!!!

Call them and tell them to leave this man who has suffered enough ALONE! If they want the money so bad, he has informed them he can pay.

“When calling, refer to Loan# 025 301 6042 for address 8789 Rexford Road, Jackson, MI 49201; contact phone numbers: Fannie Mae Chicago Office: 312-368-6200; Fannie Mae Mortgage Help Center: 866-442-8572; Wells Fargo Office of Executive Complaint: 800-853-8516. “

Violent Hate Crimes Go Unreported Because Most People Don’t Have Faith in the Police, New Study

I found this interesting so….
Thursday, the Justice Department Bureau of Justice Statistics reported 2 of 3 hate crimes in America go unreported to police, and it is continuing to drop. The drop in victims not reporting these violent attacks to their local or state police is a reason I understand and one which shouldn’t shock anyone: they believe the cops either can’t help, or will not help.

Given how the police behave, I must say I feel the same. Before I go on, I think I will give a couple of links out to just a few stories which support the reasons why so many of us do not trust police.

The book I highly recommend is Not Guilty. It consists of essays by 12 Black American men telling their story about how non-whites and the poor are treated in America. One of the writers I believe either is or was a police officer. In his essay, he tells a tragic story regarding how the police “responded” to a dispute in a poor and non-white neighborhood. It is an incident which paints a picture of how cops respond to violence across American projects and ghettos.

If you want evidence via an article, these links will take you to articles of people who have spoken out against the behavior of former colleagues. For these, click HERE or this articlemore evidence to the legitimate claim that there is no reason I see that would suggest reporting a hate crime to most police departments in America would result in anything positive.

Sadly, they aren’t the only ones who have told stories such as these.

Reporting a hate crime to those who commit hate crimes themselves doesn’t seem like an idea for success, in my opinion.  And apparently plenty of others feel the same way. If the people don’t trust the police, that should speak VOLUMES and it also should be a reminder to all of us to drop our differences and unite together against police misconduct, hate crimes, and police brutality. Just to name a few issues. Below are the statistics and other interesting information.

PA Police Department “Under Investigation” After Two Unrelated Beatings, One Caught on Camera

Attorney Devon Jacob has has filed federal lawsuits against the Springettsbury Police Department after officers beat two people in unrelated events. He is also sharing the video evidence with the world.

You can clearly see via the cop’s dash cam Springettsbury Township Police Officers beating Debra Williams.

“She was handcuffed and shackled, tasered in the calf and punched, slapped and had her throat grabbed. She was thrown in back of the police car. It’s as clear as day on video.”

And in the second case, Continue reading PA Police Department “Under Investigation” After Two Unrelated Beatings, One Caught on Camera

Homeless Crisis Across America- With NYC Sadly In The Lead

Wall Street Journal Homeless Chart
Wall Street Journal Homeless Chart

A report titled “50,000: The Bloomberg Legacy of Record Homelessness,” has compiled and released a report I believe is very sickening, disturbing and sad regarding the homeless state in New York City. It also gives suggestions on how homelessness in the city can be reduced. In NYC alone more than 50,000 homeless people sleep in municipal shelters each night. This is a 61% increase since Bloomberg took office… And please keep in mind these are the homeless people who go into shelters, this number is higher because there are plenty of homeless who have no choice but to sleep on the streets, subways, etc. In addition, with Bloomberg still in mind, family homelessness has increased by a staggering 73% in NYC since he’s been in office. Homeless children have increased in these shelters by 22% since last year, with shelters now giving beds to 21,000 kids in the city. This is a problem across the whole of America, with NYC leading, as the following shows.

Arkansas Cop Tasers, Kicks and Arrests Teen For Walking Behind His Mother…

Every police brutality case I read about makes my blood boil. There are never any words that can say how furious it makes me that not only the government allow this to go on, but that the people of America accept that it goes on at the rate in which it does. The brutality cases usually don’t make mainstream (for-profit) media, and many go unreported however! with research you see all over America we have a horrific problem with police corruption and abuse. I have seen and dealt with so many people who have been abused or worse by the police…people need to wake up and demand change. This is sickening, and it is just one case but it is not an uncommon case!

In Arkansas a teen, whom is being identified with the name “J.J” to protect his identity, was seen “approaching a much smaller woman” at night. A cop saw this and said he was concerned for her safety. (Later it was revealed the smaller woman was J.J.’s mother.) The cop approached J.J. and went to arrest him, which he resisted because the cop had no grounds to arrest him on. This officer even admitted later that J.J. was not acting suspiciously and that there was no threat of danger. Yet still, he was arrested for resisting arrest, which his lawyer states was a legitimate thing to do…given J.J. had done nothing to be arrested for. But it gets worse (and sadly, this is not uncommon).
