Repost from the ACLU – this is urgent. Download the C-Span app; listen to what has been kept secret.
We’ve finally seen the health care bill that the Senate has been writing behind closed doors. Now we know why they’ve been keeping it a secret – it’s heartless. It throws tens of millions of people off their insurance, defunds Planned Parenthood, and eviscerates Medicaid.
For millions of people with disabilities, Medicaid is a lifeline. Everyone in this country should have the right to live, work, and thrive in their communities – for people with disabilities, those rights are made possible by the services and support only Medicaid provides.
It’s no exaggeration to say that the lives and liberty of people with disabilities depend on a strong Medicaid program.
But the Senate’s health care bill will cut $834 billion from Medicaid over the next decade. This will be devastating for millions of people with disabilities who rely on the program.
Earlier this month, we rallied on Capitol Hill to tell the Senate to save the lives of people with disabilities by saying no to drastic cuts to Medicaid and no to any proposal that caps Medicaid funding. We need to do it again right now – the health care fight is too urgent to wait:
We must remain undaunted in this fight. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are rising up every day to fight this disastrous and callous health care bill, and we have to join them.
Let’s show Congress we won’t be silent while they threaten the health and well-being of millions of us. The Senate is planning to vote on the bill next week. We must fight. And we must win.
