I thought I was reading a joke at first, a sick one, but surely, I thought, surely this wouldn’t happen. But oh yes, it is real and it is set to happen in 30 days; the slaughter of all Pit Bulls and Rottweilers in a town in Louisiana. Innocent, loving dogs. The reason for this call to kill? There is no reason, there is only an ignorant, fear based excuse that “these dogs are running around freely” and “people are afraid to walk around their own neighborhoods”. So this small town in Louisiana wants to remove both Pit Bulls and Rottweilers; they want to kill them.
Ever heard of a leash law? If you read my post yesterday regarding Pit Bulls (all of which applies to Rottweilers too, they are mistaken as evil being when they are NOT), you will remember there is far more violent, dangerous and evil creatures than the Pit Bull… However,
it is thanks in part to for-profit media and news channels that feed people lies to keep them in place; that is, in fear. For every one attack made (typically by an abused dog trained to fight), there are millions of good, happy, healthy and loving Pit Bulls. I don’t know if dogs are running around or not the neighborhood as noted or not and frankly I don’t care. That is no reason or justification to murder innocent animals. And as a side note, with this threat pending I’d highly doubt many people are allowing their dogs to roam freely at the moment unless they don’t care.
And even if there are or were dogs running around; instead of pushing for the right to murder, why didn’t they go for some other more civil ordinance, i.e., leash laws? I’ve had Pits as well as Rottweilers, I grew up around dogs, and though my best friend ever (she came to me at age 6 until 2008 when she left this world) was a Chihuahua, I’ve always been around all types of dogs. It is because of my Chihuahua and also the spirit of the other dogs, including Pits, that I was able to cope with a lot of hardship I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to do… My Chihuahua could see into my soul; and so can this beautiful dog in the photos of us below…
I swear she was making a kiss face back at me lol
I understand because people have been taught to feel fear when they see a Pit Bull, a Rottweiler or any other sort of dog that isn’t a poodle. And as frustrating as that is, I understand to a degree because they’ve been deceived by the media and aren’t aware of it. I also know, as much as I’d love it to happen, we sadly aren’t going to prove to these people the truth regarding this topic overnight. We do need to make awareness a high priority, though.
Through mediums such as Fox News and CNN, who fight for ratings, aiming to get the most outrageous story is what they care about; not giving the truth. And too many Americans get their information from these people. What’s worse, too few go and check to see if this information is fact or just some generalized, made up crap. They accept it all at face value, and that is terrifying.
Americans need to start standing up against the wrong doings going on, from police brutality (obviously) to murdering innocent animals for the sake of not having to see them walk down the street?! Murdering the family member(s) and best friend(s) of an entire town; (as that is what my dogs are to me) is appalling.
I’m begging YOU to spread the word about this as well as sign the petition to save these innocent lives… [Petition found here.] We also need education on the true nature of these dogs, and to put an end -somehow- to the violence. But for now, we need to make sure these people don’t succeed and kill off the loved ones of countless families. Somehow, we’ve got to get it through to these people that this cruelty is not something we will tolerate.
Pit Bulls, Rottweilers; neither are born killers. They are NOT made that way. Like any of us, they need love; not neglect, abuse and starvation along with forced fights. I don’t know what I would do or how I would have gotten through a nervous break down due to domestic abuse, if it had not been for her. A Pit Bull who wouldn’t hurt anything. She is my life line; no one will ever take her, I refuse…
Below I’ve posted an article regarding what is going on. Yes- sadly, this is real. And I’ve learned it is a lot more widespread than I was aware… Please sign the petition, which can be found HERE or at the end of the article. Thank you….
Moreauville, Louisiana – A town in Louisiana has recently voted to ban all Pit Bulls and Rottweilers, calling them “vicious breeds” of dogs. Current owners of these specific breeds have just one more month to either move out of town, or hand their family pet over to the government to be killed.
While there has traditionally been heavy debate over larger breeds of dogs, in recent years the debate has began to die down, because an overwhelming majority of people now agree that like humans, a dog’s temperament and personality are largely based on their upbringing and life experiences.
Sadly, town officials in Moreauville, Louisiana are stuck in a very immature state of mind where they are basically prejudice against breeds of dogs.
Dog owners were notified of the recent ordinance by mail, in a letter which stated that the dogs will be taken away by the local government and killed on December 1st.
The letter reads:
TO ALL PITT BULL AND ROTTWEILER OWNERS:
PLEASE BE INFORMED THAT THE VILLAGE OF MOREAUVILLE IS ENFORCING THE ORDINANCE THAT WAS PASSED ON OCTOBER 13TH, 2014 THAT BANS PITT BULLS AND ROTTWEILERS WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF MOREAUVILLE, LA.
YOU ARE HEREBY GIVEN NOTICE THAT YOU HAVE UNTIL DECEMBER 1, 2014 TO REMOVE YOUR PITT BULLS OR ROTTWEILERS FROM YOUR PREMISES. IF YOUR PITT BULLS OR ROTTWEILERS ARE NOT REMOVED BY THIS DATE, YOUR ANIMALS WILL BE IMPOUNDED AND TRANSPORTED TO A VETERINARY CLINIC FOR FURTHER DISPOSITION. YOU WILL ALSO BE FINED FOR VIOLATING THE ORDINANCE.
KALB News channel 5 asked town official Penn Lemoine why the ordinance was put into place, and if there were any documented dog attacks in the area to justify the recent decision. Lemoine responded by saying that there were dog attacks, but they were not documented, and he claimed that these specific breeds of dogs were running the street, and frightening neighbors.
“We had several residents that were complaining about not being able to walk along the neighborhoods because these dogs were basically running along town,” Lemoine said.
When asked about the “disposing” of the dogs, Lemoine attempted to dodge the question saying “I’d rather not elaborate on that.”
When pressed further about whether or not the government was going to be killing the animals, Lemoine finally admitted “If that’s what the ordinance says, then that’s what it says.”
Some local residents are refusing to go along with the new ordinance, and have promised not to back down easily.
“They’re going to have to take him from my cold, dead hands before they get a hold of him,” Pit Bull owner O’hara Owens said.
O’Hara Owens is trying to spend as much time as she can with her beloved pit bull, Zeus, before the village she lives in promises to take him away from her and dispose of him on December 1.
“If anything ever happened to him, I would just shut down,” she said.
O’Hara suffers from severe neck problems and has been forced to wear a halo brace and use a wheelchair.
She says Zeus acts as a sort of “therapy dog,” providing love and support for her and her other brothers and sisters.
“I can sit here if I’m in pain, he comes and he notices it before I even make any noise,” she said.
But, Zeus has been blacklisted as a “vicious” breed in Moreauville.
The Owens family has also started a petition which hopes to overturn the ordinance.
